The 2020 USA POTUS election politics, the civil war, and the world war (Part 2)

Another one of those “projects” from the NYT. I have an idea… why don’t we allow all the nut cases of the world to come here, rent an apartment -or pitch a tent in any Oregonian, Californian, or Washingtonian street- and have them vote in the next election? Now, that would revitalize the American democratic experiment, wouldn’t it?

Medicare is for those who are unable to contribute/earn their own way (old people, disabled people).

Medicaid is welfare, and is widely criticized, often for being subpar.

Social Security pays proportionally based on what you pay in. It’s basically your own forced savings.

None of the above involves giving some people free stuff based on little more than “Someone else has it, so I want it!” and “if one person earned that stuff, I deserve it too!”. That’s the socialism people object to.

This summer, my nieces’ and nephews’ medicaid plan gave them an Amazon voucher to buy school supplies. That’s definitely filling a critical role in their healthcare.

it may surprise you that I agree with you. Once the government create an entitlement it is impossible to take it away. The Democrats know that and support creating more entitlements but Republicans have to face reality.

The Democrats know that all voters want something for nothing. In the Georgia senate races, they were able to get a lot of votes by saying that the Republicans would only give the voters $600 while the Democrats will give them $2000.

Do you think this is good for the country in the long run? Is Socialism is a good idea? Do you support “medicare for all”? Food and shelter are more necessary than medical care. Should the government provide those?

The premier medical organization has forgotten biology.

Of course they’re a bunch of racists now, so choose your doctor carefully lest they decide as a likely white supremacist, you deserve subpar care to help address some “historical disparities”

People are dying on a daily basis from structural racism

We must develop a critical consciousness that seeks truth and acknowledges the historical realities that powerful organizations and structures, rooted in white patriarchy and affluent supremacy such as the AMA

Medical education has largely been based on such flawed meritocratic ideals, and it will take intentional focus and effort to recognize, review and revise this deeply flawed interpretation, which ignores, or purposively obscures, the underlying root causes of causes (of health and of other metrics of success) that are socio-structural in nature

remember that if you’re choosing your doctor (if you still have a choice, by the time Obamacare and Medicare are finally “racially equitable”) - the AMA wants them to be chosen based on skin color instead of their MCAT scores. Even tho those darn white supremacist tests that somehow continue to favor Asian candidates over everyone else.

Bail reform, the Denver edition, and a creative response to use federal courts rather than the unwilling state ones to try to get these criminals held pending their trial.

Canadian 1-0 women’s soccer victory is a win for America

Way I figure it, there are probably more women on the Canadian team who respect traditional American values than on our own team. A win for them is a win for us. And the woke America-hating women on our team, with luck, will be deprived of the high platform they so cherish which they use to smear and criticize our country.

This is going well. I hope they continue to lose.

As a conservative, I’m surprised by this reply and the fact that 4 of my fellow conservatives on here liked it. I’m all for pointing out when Argyll posts blind links that don’t actually make the point he’s trying to make, but I actually agree with HuffPo on this one. Not only do I agree (and I actually didn’t know this was up for debate) that Medicare and Medicaid are socialist healthcare insurance and Stefanik’s tweet was stupid in that regard, I also don’t see her point in praising their founding. They’re garbage and we should all be upset that they were ever created.

During my time in law enforcement, trying to use federal charges whenever possible (because they were less lenient in federal courts) was a tried and true tactic. The problem is, without drugs and federal firearms charge, you had no chance your case would go federal, so that eliminates a large percent of violent crime right there. The other limiting factor was the fact that they just aren’t able to handle that many more prosecutions than they are already doing and they get to pick and choose their cases (unlike a local state/district/commonwealth’s attorney). It really just meant that only the worst of the worst were ever taken by the US attorney while 95% of violent crime went through local/state courts (which is how it should be anyway).

But I’m wondering, long term, is this really a tenable solution even for the worst of the worst? I’m not sure how Obama wasn’t able to make a bigger dent in 8 years, but I don’t see the federal courts staying that much harsher for much longer even if Biden only gets 4 years. Aside from the fact that judges know that federal prosecutors only take the worst of the worst, I think we are going to see more and more federal judges appointed to the bench that are just as supportive of “criminal justice reform” (aka jailbreak) as ever. Couple that with younger and more liberal federal prosecutors and we’ve got a recipe for disaster at the federal level too.

On the women’s soccer front

It appears the US Senate will pass the bipartisan (hard) infrastructure spending legislation.

This poses a fascinating dilemma for Pelosi. She has promised not to bring that measure to the House floor for a vote until the Senate also passes Bernie’s latest $3.5T porkulous spending bill. Passage of the latter is FAR from certain. Yet Biden badly needs a success on the hard infrastructure spending. It would be a feather in his cap.

So for Pelosi, “what’s a mother to do”? Does she pander to her insane far left wacko members and screw POTUS, or does she put those same members in their place and give Biden his win?

Stay tuned. This is gonna be interesting. :grinning:

Of course Pelosi could hold out in hope of getting at least some soft infrastructure money approved in the Senate through reconciliation. But one problem:

Once it passes hard infrastructure the Senate will be in recess for the month of August!

I’m sure Biden and/or the progressive elements in his administration will try to pressure the federal courts to not take such cases or similar, so I wonder if this is more a PR effort to draw attention the terrible policies of these DAs who refuse to do their jobs?

Meanwhile the mostly law abiding citizens pay the price for these policies in higher and higher violent crime rates.

I know substack is the new hotness, but I just don’t have the time to bother with keeping up with individual writers’ blogs. I think back when I first started getting the majority of my news online, I only followed 3 or 4 blogs. Now I can’t even manage to do that.

You can subscribe and get an email when there’s a new post, which is what I do for the substack ones I follow. Most of them only post 1-2 times per week, and that law enforcement one is on the low end. It might be less relevant to you than for someone who didn’t already have a LE perspective on some of the current topics and proposals being discussed.

The 1-0 loss to Canada, thanks to a goal from Jessie Fleming in the 75th minute, ends any chance for Olympic gold for the team.

“It certainly wasn’t one of our better performances, that’s for sure,” a visibly upset Rapinoe told the press following the match.

we can hope for enough losses that they are kept off the medal stand.

I was just pointing out that it all doesn’t fit under one umbrella. You may not like such programs (and I’m not saying that I do), but there was an arguably justifiable basis for those programs that wasn’t “they get it, so I need it too!”. Especially in their initial incarnations, as opposed to today. It’s a far cry from the new stuff being proposed today. You can accept, even if begrudgingly, those programs while objecting to new programs without being the hypocrite they like to try to label you as.

Frankly, I missed this. Should not have. But I did. It pisses me off to be so stupid. Specifically:

Given the Marxist tendencies rampant today in America, one is safe to look to Communist China to see where we might be headed. This social credit BS is already well established there. So why not here?

You might respond that this is completely un-American, 'bout as much as anything you can conjure. That was certainly true in the past, which is a convenient excuse for me being so blind. But all the pieces are in place on the left to bring this to fruition here sooner rather than later.

It’s a future to which you all are welcome. I want no part of it!

Watch the election in Ohio today as a measure of Trump’s political strength . . . or lack thereof.
