More detail on the Affirmative Action Nominee to the Supreme Court.
What is known is that Jackson has faced pushback for exceeding her constitutionally or statutorily defined role in cases.
Those reversals evidence a more fluid approach to statutory interpretation that even more liberal judges found to be beyond the pale.
While confirmation hearings often are reduced to little more than political kabuki theatre, Jackson’s hearing will be far more important because of the lack of information about her views on key issues
The change in position by German chancellor Scholz should be an example for Biden but will not be.
Scholz, who has only been in office three months, spoke with uncharacteristic clarity when he unveiled a slew of defence and foreign policy shifts that promise to upend Germany’s decades-long reluctance to raising its military profile.
“The Ukraine crisis has changed the chancellor. And now he’s changing our country,” the top-selling Bild daily wrote.
Among the headline-grabbing announcements was a pledge to earmark 100 billion euros ($113 billion) this year alone to modernise the chronically underfunded the army, called the Bundeswehr.
His coalition government had earlier already reversed a ban on sending weapons to Ukraine, and halted the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline between Germany and Russia.
Germany signalled a U-turn in key energy policies on Sunday, floating the possibility of extending the life-spans of coal and even nuclear plants to cut dependency on Russian gas, part of a broad political rethink following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
Europe’s top economy has been under pressure from other Western nations to become less dependent on Russian gas, but its plans to phase out coal-fired power plants by 2030 and to shut its nuclear power plants by end-2022 have left it with few options.
In a landmark speech on Sunday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz spelled out a more radical path to ensure Germany will be able to meet rising energy supply and diversify away from Russian gas, which accounts for half of Germany’s energy needs.
“The events of the past few days have shown us that responsible, forward-looking energy policy is decisive not only for our economy and the environment. It is also decisive for our security,” Scholz told lawmakers in a special Bundestag session called to address the Ukraine crisis.
“We must change course to overcome our dependence on imports from individual energy suppliers,” he said.
I had no doubt it was “real”, it just seems like a crazy topic for American media to be publishing right now. It feels more like a random satire article that ends up hitting a little too close to home.
You do not have to wear those masks,” the Florida Republican, who has been one of the nation’s most outspoken governors against mask and vaccine mandates, told students Wednesday as he walked up to a podium at the University of South Florida.
“Please take them off,” DeSantis continued. “Honestly, it’s not doing anything. We’ve gotta stop with this COVID theater. So if you want to wear it, fine, but this is ridiculous.”
The reaction of liberal pundits and reporters raised eyebrows on the right, as Present Biden delivered a maskless State of the Union address less than 24 hours before the Republican governor’s comments…
“Ron DeSantis is arguably the most dangerous Republican in the country.”
This is a pretty accurate statement for Democrats…
No mention of if these kids were initially told to wear the masks, by the school/organizers/whoever? Because I thought it sounded like he was giving them permission, and scolding whoever off-stage had “required” it in the first place.
Cornell Law School professor and media critic William A. Jacobson feels the attacks on DeSantis are calculated.
“The mainstream media is targeting DeSantis because they recognize him as a strong 2024 contender, particularly if Trump does not run. So as they did with numerous other Republican presidential hopefuls, they will try to nitpick him to death and obsess over him in order to create a narrative. It is all political,”
Will we ever again see a Democrat try to actually sell their own position? Or will the default be to merely trash their opponent, then campaign on “Vote for me, because I’m not him!”
China was my first thought here, but with covid restrictions and their draconian isolation rules, that’s a no go.
The best bet for this are likely Middle Eastern countries - UAE, Qatar, or even Egypt. Israel might be an option too if El Al is still flying to Moscow. Neither the UAE or Qatar require an in-transit visa, and neither country is likely to ban Russian aircraft from their airspace. All of these Middle Eastern carriers have been continuing flights to SVO and that makes sense given the connections these countries have in the energy industry.
That’s a Kremlin talking point they’ve been spreading on state media for probably a decade. While there’s definitely a very small number of Neo-Nazis in Ukraine, they do not hold any power, political or otherwise. I don’t think they ever did, but I’m not sure. State media took a little bit of truth and blew it out of proportion in a very effective propaganda campaign.
I think we have some nazis here too, should our neighbors invade to “liberate” us? OK for them to destroy civilian infrastructure and kill thousands of non-nazi civilians in the process? Cause that’s what’s happening right now in Ukraine.
You totally missed his point. That Ukraine is run by Nazis and Russia is just defeating Nazis by invading is absolutely Kremlin disinformation. The point @xerty was making was that MSN is essentially repackaging the Kremlin’s point into a USA left wing point - Ukrainians are racists against blacks. It’s MSN that is pushing a Kremlinesque narrative here. You are so steeped in thinking that those of us on the right are accepting of Russian disinformation that you can’t even recognize when your side (mainstream and left wing media) are the ones spreading it and we are simply pointing it out in a sarcastic manner.
I’ve become convinced that no one is against disinformation. Everyone is just against anyone else doing it better and getting better results than themselves.
Hillary for 2024. They’re spinning back up their $200M bribe accepting arm, so companies and foreign countries looking to buy favor in her second attempt can place their bets.
