The 2020 USA POTUS election politics, the civil war, and the world war (Part 2)

I well realize I’m getting old. But, boy, I did not realize how far I am behind the curve. To wit:

Russia’s threats against Sweden and Finland have caught me totally off guard. I didn’t realize neither country is a NATO member!! Stupid. Out of touch. But what can I say? I just didn’t know.

Finland, in particular, is now eyeing NATO membership much more closely. And under the circumstances, who can blame them!!

The longer Zelensky and his Ukrainians are able to separate Putin from his total victory, the better it is for the entire world. Even the Taiwanese are benefitting. Did you hear that China abstained in the Security Council vote condemning Putin?! That says to me that China might be having second thoughts about attempting to take Taiwan by force. And those second thoughts are prompted by the Ukrainian resistance to Putin’s onslaught.

For the actual and would-be aggressors, things so far are not going to plan.

Finally Zelensky’s courage and steadfastness are setting a worldwide example, while condemnation of Putin is widespread. He has a tiger by the tail. It’s not something he anticipated.

I suspect you are too charitable regarding the First Affirmative Action Nominee. A quick review of those who were paying to promote her, while pressuring Breyer to resign, show they have little regard for judicial precedent and were also actively lobbying for packing the court. If she’s their first choice, I suspect we’re in for a lifetime of trouble.

In 2019, she blocked the administration from expanding a policy known as expedited removal that allows the government to quickly deport immigrants who crossed the border illegally without involving immigration courts. The decision was reversed on appeal by the D.C. Circuit, which said federal law gives the president “unreviewable discretion” to shorten and speed up the deportation process.

Maybe the best you can say is this -

“Ms Jackson is doubtless eminently more qualified for the Supreme Court than Biden is to be president.”

Wasn’t Clarence Thomas the first justice benefitting from affirmative action? What is the main difference between him and her?

I take your point. Guess I’m getting soft. Her ruling you mention regarding tolerance for illegal immigrants is completely unacceptable. It is very, very bad.

I did find Judge Jackson to be a likeable person. Guess that swayed me and fooled me. She went to Harvard and drank their liberal Kool-Aid. Thing is, if you attend Harvard and avoid their Kool-Aid, you will go thirsty. That liberal swill is the only liquid refreshment Harvard offers.

How about now?

It’s not exactly the same. Taiwan is an island, it’s better protected and always on alert. It would be extremely costly to take. Ukraine is not heavily militarized and was surrounded by ground troops on three sides. They’re outgunned like 10:1 but It may also turn out to be costly.

Currently long YNDX and no RSX, along similar lines, but with less conviction than previously.

The US/EU response has come together to be more decisive than I thought, ala SWIFT and some other sanctions that initially appeared to be more form than substance. Tensions regarding the response appear to be escalating, both on the Russian and US sides, so there may be more punitive measures yet to come. The whole situation is looking worse.

You’re probably right - Bush 1 considered only Thomas (black) and Garza (Hispanic) to replace Marshall back in 1991, and although he made no specific promises about race or ethnicity, it seems quite likely those factors were in play ala affirmative action given the lack of other candidates considered.

Perhaps I should have said Jackson will be the first Black Quota Supreme Court Nominee, in that the seat she is filling has been promised to a Black Woman, ensuring that the Court over represent black Americans by nearly 200% in keeping with Biden’s Black Supremacist tendencies.

That is consequence of having a very small (N=9) set size, as you know. So, the comment is unnecessary hyperbole. But I do agree that selection based on demographics is problematic.

That’s a statistical problem I know the progressives would be happy to rectify, for example with another dozen new Justices of their choosing.

Biden regime welcomes Russian overflights

Russian flights are now unwelcome in Europe and even throughout Canada. But here in the USA it’s “open skies” for Biden’s Russian friends.

President Joe Biden: making all Americans proud

Putin’s long term propaganda successful as Biden and Democrats gorge on Russian anti-fracking Kool-Aid

Under cover of environmental activism and concerns, Putin has succeeded in throttling American energy independence while enriching Russia.

This has been going on for years!! For Putin, “keep it in the ground” applies only in the USA, NOT in Russia.

Moscow secretly funded US anti-fracking groups.

Well, it isn’t a statistical problem. SCOTUS constitutionally has 9 members.

First, someone needs to remind the Daily Beast what “brutally” actually means.

Second, saying its none of our business to get involved is not “Pro-Putin”. Once again, fact-checking should involve actual facts, not just blindly regurgitate ad hauc propaganda.

Are you thinking about Article III? In reality, Article III gives to Congress the power to determine the number of Justices on the SCOTUS.

When FDR sought to pack the Court, back in the 1930’s, the idea was so unpopular with the people that Congress didn’t even bother to vote on it.

Today the American people, as a whole, are a lot less smart. After all, they elected Biden. So who knows what would happen if he tried anew to pack the Court.

Incidentally, FDR did end up packing the Court! But he did it the old fashioned way. He remained POTUS longer than many of the Court members of his time were able to remain either alive or at least able to serve.

Et tu, Switzerland!!??

In all my life I never thought this day would come! The impossible has happened, and I’m genuinely shocked.

Switzerland, always neutral in the past, has come out against Russia!!!

Even the Swiss have sided with Ukraine

This leaves only Biden’s America sitting on the fence, not having gone all out against Putin. One wonders what Putin must have on Biden to bring this about.

  • Switzerland’s Federal Council said on Monday that it was adopting the EU’s sanctions against Russia.

  • The package includes freezing Putin’s personal assets, effective immediately.

  • Switzerland said it would close its airspace to Russian aircraft and bar people close to Putin from entering.

From Bloomberg:

Biden continues to support Russian oil and natural gas imports with our precious American hard currency, while screwing over domestic energy production

We DO NOT NEED Russian energy. We have plenty of our own!!

But even now Biden continues to bow to his hard left “keep it in the ground” supporters, screwing over American drillers and producers in the process, much to Putin’s benefit.

Russia desperately needs the hard currency their energy sales bring in, and Biden is there for Russia right down the line. At every turn Biden acts to thwart and restrain the American energy production industry, while simultaneously exhorting foreign producers to do whatever it takes to send us more and more oil and natural gas.

Did you vote for Biden? This is exactly what you voted for.

Even now, on the fifth day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Kyiv bracing for the worst, the West has continued purchasing the oil and gas that Moscow is desperate to sell — pocketing hundreds of millions of dollars daily to subsidize its war machine.

Washington and Brussels have carved out loopholes big enough for an oil tanker in their current sanctions policy, allowing the trade to continue. Western officials have also worked the phones, reassuring traders — and their banks — they can continue buying — and paying for — Russian oil and gas.

But Kyiv is pleading for it to stop. “We insist on a full embargo for Russian oil and gas,” Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted over the weekend. “Buying them now means paying for the murder of Ukrainian men, women and children.

So you see, Biden’s Russia sanctions are akin to Swiss cheese . . . with holes throughout. Biden is a phony. But you will never hear that from his lying American mainstream media.

UPDATE!

CANADA has just banned ALL imports of crude from Putin’s Russia!!

And remember, Canada earlier banned all Russian aircraft from its considerable air space.

How is it that Canada gets this right while Biden’s America languishes and does so little? I am embarrassed at this point to be an American.

Biden’s sanctions are half hearted. He is too stupid to take cues being offered us by a large portion of the free world!!

If Biden issues that ban, Russia will reciprocate the same way it already did with carriers from 36 countries.
Me thinks flights will be needed, and soon, to extricate the many Americans who are still in Russia. No need for a symbolic ban… yet.

Isnt this the place where we start accusing Biden of being in bed with the Russians? That’s the treatment Trump got (and is still getting) over much, much less. At least Trump’s “indiscretions” were all lip service (in other words, he was nice to Putin in public), backed by no action of any substance.
