remember not all democrats are horse thieves…but…
wow wonder where inflation will be in CA soon…
Not only that, but often charges are reduced as a reward for flipping, or to ensure a conviction. I’d be shocked if President Joseph Robinette Biden knows the details of every person in the pen who is there for pot possession.
Even the left-wing news media are reporting that there is no one in the federal prison system for simple possession of marijuana. This is a publicity stunt to change the topic in the minds of voters in the midterms from inflation, crime, etc.
Also, what kind of message does it send with nearly 100,000 people dead from drug overdoses last year?

From marijuana?
I’m not torn. For this reason (and another outlined below), I am against it. It can be argued that for this reason, it is unconstitutional. The governor of VA tried something similar a few years back where he tried to blanket reinstate voting rights for convicted felons that had been released from jail. It was challenged in court and the challengers won with the court saying the governor could only reinstate rights on an individual basis.
If there is bipartisan support for this, change the law. THEN consider pardons.
Also, the rhetoric surrounding this - that these pardons will make a difference to people who can’t get a job because they were railroaded for simple possession of marijuana in federal court - is bullshit. The feds don’t take simple possession of marijuana cases for someone that hasn’t done anything else wrong except in a circumstance where a person was stupid and had weed on them on federal property and were arrested by a uniformed federal officer. If you want to pardon THOSE people, fine. That’s fair - after you change the law. As it stands right now, if you get caught with weed in your pocket in a national park, you could be prosecuted for the thing that Biden says he is pardoning everyone for. Change the law FIRST. There is probably bipartisan support to do it. But passing a bipartisan law doesn’t help one side more than the other right before an election, so we get this.
The only thing Biden is doing that I am in favor of is that he is starting the process to get MJ off the schedule 1 controlled substance list and move it down (hopefully not take it off entirely). I think that process starts in the executive. If it needs to go through congress, I am in favor of my congressman voting to moving it down the list.
I don’t know much about the business but it seems possible that the same criminal who sells marijuana also sells fentanyl laced tablets.
Edit. I did a search and whether marijuana is sometimes laced with fentanyl is a controversial topic. Here’s an article that says it is
I’m only torn in that I think Federal marijuana possession laws should be repealed, which I think was arch8ngle’s underlying sentiment as well. But pardoning past convictions is not the proper remedy.
Some developments in New York
I do not trust polls but these and the New York poll are too good to ignore
Oregon may be on the verge of electing its first Republican governor in a generation next month.
It would be a heavy blow for Democrats, an indictment of the party’s brand in what has been one of the most progressive states in the country. Portland, its largest city, has been an epicenter of left-wing activism in support of causes like defunding the police and drug decriminalization.
But by all accounts, Portland is struggling. Crime is up, the city is facing a homelessness crisis and residents are worried. Democratic Rep. Earl Blumenauer, a Portland native who has represented much of the city in Congress since 1996, called Portland “broken” when he announced his reelection bid earlier this year.
“There’s just a huge feeling of lawlessness,” a Portland resident told the Oregonian this week.
Maybe that’s another sanctuary city that would like some illegal immigrants.
We’re already hosting lots of them, not just in metro Portland but also in the Willamette Valley agricultural sectors. And it has been like that for years.
PayPal sucks, the 2022 Misinformation edition. They were rolling out a new user agreement for Nov 3rd with $2500 “misinformation” fines, just in time for anyone protesting the election outcomes.
prohibitions on “the sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials” that “promote misinformation” or “present a risk to user safety or wellbeing.” Users are also barred from “the promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory.” The company’s current acceptable use policy does not mention such activities.
Deliberations will be made at the “sole discretion” of PayPal and may subject the user to “damages” — including the removal of $2,500 “debited directly from your PayPal account” per offense. The company’s user agreement contains a provision in which account holders acknowledge that the figure is “presently a reasonable minimum estimate of PayPal’s actual damages” due to the administrative cost of tracking violations and damage to the company’s reputation.
Sadly, someone noticed and actually read the updated user agreement, so they were shamed into retracting it.
“We’re gonna steal the midterms and fine you $2500 if you complain” appears to have been the plan.
The Democrats would rather get wiped out in the midterms than give up their climate religion.
Crime will be a huge issue in New York and this latest incident Will be hard for the left-wing media to ignore. But they are doing their best. The only detailed reports I could find were in the NY Post and Fox news.
Two people were shot outside the Long Island home of GOP gubernatorial candidate Rep. Lee Zeldin on Sunday while his teenage twin daughters were at home, he confirmed to The Post.
“My daughters Mikayla and Arianna were doing homework on the first floor,” said Zeldin, who was not home at the time. “They heard the shots. Boom! They went upstairs and locked themselves in the bathroom.
He said his front porch, where he was interviewed by The Post on Saturday, “is now part of the crime scene.
And/or deplete the SPR. I though “Strategic” was for the country. Obviously, Joseph Robinette Biden thinks its for the Party (or BCF).
Some of the ugliness being exposed from within, no doubt…
Now this is getting serious. California is targeting bacon
If the Supremes rule against California we may have a great California bacon shortage. Voters here don’t get pissed off with $7 a gallon gas but maybe they’ll react when their bacon is taken away?
The Supreme Court will hear “the bacon case” on Oct. 11. National Pork Producers Council v. Ross challenges California’s Prevention of Cruelty to Farm Animals Act, also known as Proposition 12. It’s an ill-conceived and unconstitutional 2018 law that attempts to use the Golden State’s enormous market power as leverage to regulate pig farming nationwide.
California lawmakers often presume they know what’s best—in this case for pigs and pig farmers across the country.
State regulators are currently training inspectors to disperse across the nation to enforce California’s rules. Out-of-state farmers must certify that their products are compliant with Proposition 12 to be sold in California.
This should be interesting.
