Betting market odds, trump slightly ahead

Do you know what year the Bad Orange Man was elected to President, and maybe what a fax machine is? If so, you’d be mentally sound enough to be charged with mishandling top secret documents. Our current president on the other hand…

President Biden: And what’s happened in the meantime is that as – and Trump gets elected in November of 2017?

Unidentified Male Speaker: 2016.

President Biden: ’16, 2016, All right. So – why do I have 2017 here?

Mr. Siskel: That’s when you left office, January of 2017.

ETA good video grilling the special investor too

Didn’t she swear to endorse the Republican nominee … or is she just waiting until he is the nominee before begrudgingly giving her heartfelt endorsement?

Meanwhile in Texas. Some Republicans in the Texas house blocked a school choice bill. The Texas governor raised some money and targeted them in the primary. Many of them lost or are being forced into a runoff.

Gov. Greg Abbott succeeded in knocking off nine fellow Republicans who opposed vouchers in the House during last year’s legislative sessions. More could fall in the May runoffs, placing his signature priority in range in 2025.

the Conservative motion voted down by 204-116 margin

The entire thing was political theatre, but it was also a show that got the country talking, which is exactly what the Conservatives wanted. MPs will now head into the Easter break talking about the carbon tax, talking about the increase scheduled for on April 1 and talking about the non-confidence vote.

“None of the Above” just bowed out, at least the centrist “No Labels” group that might have had Manchin running.

https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/no-labels-will-abandon-2024-presidential-campaign-effort-4b4e5121

That just leaves the fringes…

Democrats and some Republicans have criticized the group’s efforts, arguing that a No Labels ticket could hurt President Biden and benefit former President Donald Trump in November. The group tried to make the case that it wouldn’t just play spoiler, but struggled to present evidence that its ticket could gather enough support to win the electoral college.

Even without No Labels, the November ballot will be crowded. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the scion of the famed Democratic family, is seeking to get on state ballots as an independent, as is academic and activist Cornel West. The Libertarian and Green parties also plan to field candidates.

Polls look close, Trump ahead with minorities in swing states, as well as men

https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/biden-trump-polls-swing-state-takeaways-42e42d41

The new Wall Street Journal poll of seven swing states has plenty of bad news for President Biden, who is trailing in six of the seven most important battlegrounds of the 2024 election. More broadly, it also has one piece of potentially devastating news for the party Biden leads: The pillars that hold up the Democratic coalition are showing fractures.

Journal poll finds Biden drawing only 37% of men in the seven swing states on a ballot that includes only him and Trump, about the same as the 38% the Journal found in a poll of voters nationwide in February. Those are far weaker showings than the 46% of men Biden won in the 2020 election

Biden still ahead with some key demographic groups

I donated to the Jill Stein campaign to get the green party on the ballot in Pennsylvania. Looks like a donation to the RFK campaign would be in order.

Yes. Of course, ignore the fact the judge hasn’t threatened it, and the prosecution isn’t even requesting it. But it’d be irresponsible “journalism” to pass up that headline, now wouldn’t it?

“Four More Years, Pause.”

our daffy 81-year-old president onstage doing his best impression of a barnstorming rally: “Four more years, pause,” he said, glancing around, looking to all the world like a man whose TV remote is attached to a string. It’s a little quiet before the audience realizes what he’s asking for and erupts into “Four more years” chants.

I mean, he asked the audience to pause, so they did. Meanwhile, Our Betters at the Dept of Misinformation knew this never happened and you’re a Threat to Democracy if you mention it:

And our White House staff carefully removed the gaffe and presented a special, clean transcript.

PRESIDENT BIDEN: Folks, imagine what we can do next. Four more years (inaudible).
AUDIENCE: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!

It’s a tiny thing, but. . . it wasn’t inaudible. It was audible! It was even kind of sweet. He was just reading an instruction from the teleprompter.

but I guess too many people had seen the gaffe so they had to hide their coverup attempts.

After people noticed, the transcript was updated. Related to unreliable White House transcripts, Biden refuses to give interviews to the major American publications…

Definitely not related to these bad approval numbers from the latest polls:

Biden making some interesting comments this am, including saying he’s up for a presidential debate with Trump.

  • BIDEN: I WILL DEBATE TRUMP, I DON’T KNOW WHEN
  • BIDEN, IN INTERVIEW WITH HOWARD STERN: IF I AM ELECTED AGAIN, WE WILL MAKE ROE V. WADE THE LAW OF THE LAND AGAIN

I’m in favor of the first for sure. Not sure about the second, given the Supreme Court ruled it was a states issue. I guess just pandering to a wedge issue?

Immigration a top issue among voters, and this makes it seem like the Biden administration is being run by the far left rather than a re-election campaign.

Democrats enter panic mode as Gaza protests erupt

House and Senate Democrats’ anxiety is spiking as pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses around the country kick into overdrive.

Why it matters: The protests are fueling a volatile political dynamic sparked by the Oct. 7 attack and the Israel-Hamas war just as the 2024 election comes into view.

  • “The longer they continue, and the worse that they get, the worse it’s going to be for the election overall,” one House Democrat told Axios.
  • The demonstrations, the lawmaker warned, are “bringing out [the public’s] most conservative side.”

What to watch: Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) warned that protesters are “already planning on being” at the Democratic Convention in Chicago.
