The 2024 election politics

Reaching for the silver lining, if they all have blanket immunity then it’s more likely one will come clean about how things really went down…

Can all these people still be tried and convicted of crimes? With any convictions just immediately being vacated? Is a pardon a defense at trial, or does the pardon only apply to convictions?

Well, I guess there’s a question of whether the blanket pardons are constitutional or not, which I guess will have to get litigated to the supreme court, and it’s kind of an unknown at this point.

Aside from that no you can’t convict them of crimes they were pardoned for, but you could, for example drag Fauci or the Biden Family members back in front of a investigative congressional committee for testimony, and if you could prove they lied there, or they refused to show up then you could jailed them for contempt of congress since this is after the pardon expires.

I don’t think that would stop them from showing up and just claiming to have forgotten anything and everything you asked about however. So I think it might just be a waste of time, but I’m not sure.

He also had something that said his interpretation of whichever amendment it was for being born here makes you a citizen was that that no longer applies, and not to issue citizenship to people who come here illegally to have their kids. That should provide another deterrent to unwanted immigration while the courts argue about it for a few years.

Why?

My understanding was that creating a new department cannot be done by Executive Order, it can only be done by Congress.

This is just a talking point to appease the ignorant. Oil companies won’t drill there because oil prices aren’t high enough, and because the next Dem administration will ban it again.

Nah, he just renamed Obama’s existing dept that was in charge of similar things to DOGE.

Not sure about Cuba, but on the Alaska issue and energy policy generally, here’s some more background.

signed an executive order called “Unleashing American Energy”. The document instructs heads of agencies to review all existing regulations and policies “that impose an undue burden on the identification, development, or use of domestic energy resources — with particular attention to oil, natural gas, coal, hydropower, biofuels, critical mineral, and nuclear energy resources.”

There are few things that abundance agenda types hate more than National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review, which requires mountains of paperwork and years of litigation before federal and federally-funded projects can be built if they are expected to substantially impact the environment. Here’s an article on just how bad things have gotten. Groups file lawsuits demanding more paperwork, even though they have no interest in what the resulting reports actually show. The entire point is delay and making building things more difficult and expensive.

The Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) was created to oversee NEPA and ensure agency compliance, coordinating efforts across the federal government. Section 5 of Trump’s main energy EO is called “Unleashing Energy Dominance,” in which the president instructs the CEQ to focus on revising NEPA regulations to expedite the permitting process. Agencies must emphasize speed and certainty in permitting over other considerations. They are also directed to limit environmental considerations to legislated requirements, removing additional elements that introduce delays.

And on the topic of pardons, let’s not forget to recognize one of the dark web’s pioneers, the Dread Pirate Roberts. He was guilty of being ahead of his time in creating an online drugs-for-crypto marketplace :).

“Bad” is “good” now. Like Darth Vader said to me, the Jedi are evil!

Curious why is he giving them paid leave/vacation vs termination. You’re fired!

Can federal workers be terminated without cause?

We’re talking about DJT, he can write an EO saying federal workers can NOW be terminated without cause

But the courts would declare it null and void if it isn’t legal. Still a country of laws.

We shall see, it depends on enforcement. Now other 2 branches have begun to look the other way. Also, I’m curious if Bondi will be confirmed.

I don’t understand this one. Seems like a terrible decision.

Civil Servants. And most are probably unionized. So there’s a process to go through to terminate them, he just doesnt want them working at those jobs while they go through the process.

Right, stop them from doing more damage now with their DEI stuff, actually fire them later after whatever process it is for federal employees. There was a real problem during his first term of people actively working against him as federal employees, so I think he’s being smarter about that this time around - pulling security clearances and such for known enemies, paid time off for lots of people he’s not going to want until they’re gone, etc.

So free pay/vacation??. I don’t believe time out works for adults. I understand they could do damage, but DJT has never been about process/norms

Article and some history on how the Feds created much of the affirmative action in the workplace via executive order (under Nixon!), forcing every employer to be a racist/sexist and headcount employees by job for disparities if he wanted to take even a few $10k’s of government contracting money for his business. What comes by executive order has just left by executive order, and very likely for the better.

Now if you’re caught or suspected of non-merit based hiring, the Feds can come hassle you in the same why they would before for not being racist enough.

I’m glad DEI is ending. Son is applying to college now, I hope schools truly stop using it for admissions, too!

Either they are being paid to be at work causing more problems, or they are paid to be at home doing nothing. They’re going to be terminated regardless.

DJT should do Summary terminations… on truth social. Laws have never stopped him in the past…

something about Sch. F?

Time for the Committee to Investigate the Insurrection of the Committee to Investigate the Insurrection of Jan 6th.

Loudermilk in December released a report evaluating the “failures and politicization” of the Jan. 6 committee and recommending a criminal investigation into Cheney, accusing her of witness tampering by being in touch with star witness Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide.

I mean, they all got pardons, and some of them lied and colluded, so I guess it’s a good as places any to make some political hay.

Biden said Monday morning that the [Jan 6th Committee]pardons do not indicate the individuals “engaged in any wrongdoing,” even as his Justice Department suggested in recent court filings for Jan. 6 defendants — many of whom are expecting imminent pardons from Trump — that accepting a pardon comes with an implicit admission of guilt.
