wife and I got the Pfizer vaccine 2nd dose last month. Had to go to Westchester County Center in White Plains NY. after endless hours trying to make appts.(State mega Site) 65 miles 1 way from me. Cuomo sure knows how to discriminate). Only place white folks in NYState for 16 counties could go.( Westchester/Putnam/Dutchess/ Greene/Columbia/Ulster/Orange/Rockland etc.) Talk about discrimination. All closer in sites.

No help paying from NYState. Then walk from North White Plains station for 3/4 mile thru deserted woods and broken up parking lot. Then reverse the trip. F NYSTATE

A minority family (living in a bygone city) were getting outreach attempts and they got vaccinated a month ago. Yes, even their under 20 kids were vaccinated. This was before the state opened up non-mature people.

Citizens living in rural areas make up less than 20% of the population.
And plenty of (if not nearly all) “red states” have at least one urban area with the vast majority of the population living in the surrounding suburbs.
Until we are at much higher vaccination rates, I doubt the rural-vs-urban issue shows up in that way.
Federal is apportioning based on populations (after Jan 20, Previous did not). The states with lower vaccinations have more doses sitting and not distributed.

I could understand Putnum County and some of the Counties beyond Orange not having a vax mega site, but Orange County and Rockland County don’t have them? Poughkeepsie doesn’t have one? That’s crazy.
You need to live in certain zips for those sites and they check addresses. Need D/l or mailing address.
My parents, who live about 5 miles outside Poughkeepsie, had to travel to Syracuse and Binghamton for vaccines.
The local theory on this was it was Cuomo’s way of punishing the Hudson Valley for Marc Molinaro (Dutchess County executive) having the audacity to run against him during the last election. But this delves a bit too far into local politics for a forum like this…
It’s journalistic malpractice that 60 minutes went after DeSantis and Florida after his success in vaccinating the 2nd highest percentage of seniors in any state as fast as he did (which translates into the most by far considering how many FL has), while NY (and I assume other states) clearly did a MUCH poorer job. 60 minutes acted like FL was the one that should be blamed for rich seniors flying there to get vaccinated. How are the states those people are flying from not the ones that should be blamed in that instance?

DH had another BD yesterday. Most of our small family showed up.
Son and Gk’s stopped by after attending a wedding in Pismo Beach (on way home). But discussing vaccinations was a topic. 2 of family drove short distance to Native American site and got their shot. 2 of the wives had to travel to nearby town (actually 30+ miles). DH & myself drove to nearby town. Youngest son got vaccine in hometown.
So I would say as lowering of the age for the vaccines is happening, we will see happier folks.

Johnson and Johnson claims blood clots have been recorded following vaccination with Pfizer and Moderna’s shots. But experts say a background level of blood clots are expected, as a certain number of people will develop them regardless of whether they had the vaccine.
I am today two weeks and a few hours past my J&J vaccination. Still have another week to go on the clots, and another two weeks to achieve full development of the antibodies. So far, so good. I have had no reaction to the shot whatsoever at this point. I certainly have no complaints, and I’m especially pleased not to have to return for a second shot.

As Covid-19 vaccines roll out in several countries, counterfeits are being marketed online. WSJ explains how phony vaccines end up on the internet and the risks for people who buy them.
Pfizer Inc. says it has identified in Mexico and Poland the first confirmed instances of counterfeit versions of the Covid-19 vaccine it developed with BioNTech SE , the latest attempt by criminals trying to exploit the world-wide vaccination campaign.
Vials seized by authorities in separate investigations were tested by the company and confirmed to contain bogus vaccine. The vials recovered in Mexico also had fraudulent labeling, while a substance inside vials in Poland was likely an anti-wrinkle treatment, Pfizer said.
About 80 people at a clinic in Mexico received a fake vaccine going for about $1,000 a dose, though they don’t appear to have been physically harmed. The vials, found in beach-style beer coolers, had different lot numbers than those sent to the state, and a wrong expiration date, said Dr. Manuel de la O, the health secretary of Nuevo León state.
Polish authorities said no one there had received the counterfeit vaccine, which was seized at a man’s apartment.
The findings are the latest in an effort between law enforcement and drugmakers such as Pfizer, Moderna Inc. and Johnson & Johnson to stem criminal activity related to the Covid-19 vaccines. The global rollout of shots has provided criminals a fresh opportunity to take advantage of unsuspecting people.

Got shot no 2 of Pfizer today. Again, the rural county-run clinic folks couldn’t have been nicer or more efficient; I was jabbed less than 5 minutes after entering. We’ll see how I feel when the side effects kick in later tonight/early tomorrow morning.
This may sound crazy, but I feel like this is a missed opportunity for some of these rural areas with surplus vaccine to boost their tourism numbers and sales tax receipts. Many of these locales, particularly in the west, are beautiful this time of year with excellent hiking, scenic drives, and outdoor recreation. These kinds of activities are inherently safe, and it allows appointments in more urban/suburban areas to go to residents that can’t travel as far.
At least in Washington, it is still fairly difficult to snag an appointment in the Puget Sound area without playing the F5 game all afternoon, but it is trivial to get it outside the greater metro area.
A Baltimore factory that botched the production of 15 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine has been cited for unsanitary conditions by the US Food and Drug Association.
In a report on the factory for Emergent BioSolutions published by the FDA](https://www.fda.gov/media/147762/download) on Wednesday, officials said the facility had peeling paint and “brown residue” on the walls.
The FDA said in a statement that conditions at a factory can "lead to quality issues during the manufacturing of a product
No COVID-19 vaccines from the plant have been distributed in the US, as the FDA has not authorized the factory to do so, though the plant has manufactured millions of doses.
Doh! A hi tech facility for manufacturing mass vaccines in Baltimore. What could possibly go wrong?

Apparently the J&J vaccine I received came here from Europe. Wonder if anybody ever looked at the J&J factory there.
With the clear J&J preference for operation in filthy slums, maybe the European J&J vaccine came here from a European slum.

Australian ER doctor describes the ‘shocking’ adverse impacts of the second Pfizer coronavirus jab that floored him for days as an expert admits there have been ‘very high numbers of severe reactions
Despite receiving his childhood immunisations, the flu vaccine every year, and numerous shots as part of international deployments, the experienced doctor said the reaction to the Pfizer jab was the most ‘vigorous’ he ever experienced.
Flinders University professor of medicine Nikolai Pterovsky told the ABC the significant reaction to the second jab was actually noted in phase three trials by Pfizer. There were very high numbers of severe reactions after the second dose… we don’t understand what causes it,’ he said.
Vaccines generally work by injecting a weakened virus or signature protein into the body which trains the immune system to recognise and fight the infection without having the danger of an active virus.
Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine works differently by injecting messenger RNA into the muscles which instructs the body to make the signature protein.
The mRNA itself cannot be replicated so once the initial instruction is given the muscles create the virus protein for a few days and then return to normal.
These types of vaccines are new compared to existing vaccines, having only been seriously studied since 2005 after researchers worked out how to stablise the process.
Pfizer’s vaccine packages the mRNA in a lipid casing, which Professor Petrovsky said could be the cause of the reaction rather than the virus protein.
The reaction to the second jab has not been observed in either the Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccines.
from what I’ve heard from family and friends the Moderna vaccine second dose also has much higher side effects than the first dose
Has not been observed? That’s impossible. My family members have had more reaction to Moderna compared to Pfizer, especially with the second shot. My boss had to cancel a meeting after the second Moderna shot.
The early safety trials showed more adverse effects for MRNA than for PFE. This is pretty well known, especially for the Moderna #2 shot.
