Who will join POTUS nominee Biden on the Democrat ticket as VP?

Update

Tom Steyer has made the stage for the upcoming October debate!!

Steyer is wealthy and he is self financing his campaign, much as did Trump back in 2016. He is a late starter and was unable to qualify for the debate this past week. But he will be there next month.

My take:

I can live with all of the candidates, but with two exceptions:

I do not like Castro because he is nasty. I did not care for the disrespect he displayed toward Vice President Biden last time. And analysts are now saying Biden was right and Castro wrong. Also, I do not like that Castro’s brother and campaign manager doxed a bunch of people he did not like. Castro is not gonna win. The sooner he is off the stage the better.

I think Beto is a whack job. But he is helping Trump so much at this point that I hope he remains part of the on-stage pack.

All the other candidates are doing a pretty good job, the best they can. I have nothing negative to say about any of them.

I can’t help but wonder whether you feel any cognitive dissonance saying this. The candidate you’ve voted for before and plan to vote for again is THE nastiest one, ever.

Naa, I’m good. But an explanation is off topic here.

Biden can easily get so mixed up under pressure. But I think his thought was close to being ok. Give these children more listening & communication skills or at least a try.

We listen to the radio all night, off & on. I have a beautiful piece of furniture that has a record player included. I haven’t used or played any old records in years but it’s ready to go. (some day my 2 son’s will wonder what to do with this item)

An interesting development yesterday late as President Carter in effect came out against the candidacies of both Biden and Bernie.

Both candidates, if elected, would reach 80 years of age during their first term. President Carter, 94, said he would not have been able at age 80 to carry the burden of the presidency.

Note President Carter will celebrate his ninety-fifth birthday shortly, on first of October.

Recent history has demonstrated that a person doesn’t need to be smart or capable to be president. Both of them are way more capable than the old baby in office.

Another one bites the dust:

Communist Bill de Blasio has left the race. But not to worry. Several more communist candidates remain.

Senator Warren is drawing large crowds now. She has no prima facie problems with her candidacy. She is old enough, but not too old. She is energetic and fit. You do not worry, with Senator Warren, that she will pass away before the election! She gives every appearance of being capable of serving two terms as POTUS.

Think about it. Do the Democrats really want a nominee who, if elected, will not in 2024 be ready and able to serve a second term? Senator Warren can meet that standard. Bernie and Biden? I’m a lot less certain.

So it’s looking today as if the nomination will go to Senator Warren. Of course millions of Democrats have yet to cast their votes. They might disagree. But I’m hoping for a Warren victory. This is because I think she will meet in the general election with the same fate as did the last two Democrat POTUS candidates from Massachusetts.

Just located this piece which supports what I earlier wrote, above:

Senator Warren is drawing very large crowds!

Democrats are catching up. They appear more and more to realize ability to draw large crowds really matters. This was denied by Democrats back in 2016, much to their humiliation.

Senator Warren has taken the lead in Iowa polling for the first time according to this DailyBeast piece updated this morning:

Senator Warren now is leading the field in Iowa!

Black voters are very important, though, and I think they in the main still are on Biden’s side. The South Carolina primary outcome will be very important. Warren needs to break through with black voters. Do not think she has done so yet. Am not certain she will be able because of the strong tie between Biden and President Obama.

A humorous take on the current field by an old time humorist.

the Democrats seem to have the idea that NOBODY can lose to Trump. And Democrats are determined to find that nobody .

Speaking of which, President Trump is in a lot of trouble for his Tweet about The Squad: “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came?” Wait a minute, Donald. Totally broken and crime infested? They are in Congress.

Bernie is even older than Biden. Bernie is so old that he’s a “Stone-Age Socialist.” Back in the Stone Age, he was demanding “Free Stones for All.”
And Elizabeth Warren. She’s an expert in bankruptcy law – so she’s got a vision for America’s future.

How, kemo sahbbe!

Fair enough.
For a different perspective: I’ve long been a Warren backer, and am more excited about her candidacy than of any other candidate during my adult lifetime.

Really.

All credit, and massive respect, to the Democrat Party hierarchy, bigwigs, and string pullers. These people are political geniuses!

I refer of course to the ongoing impeachment flap. Naturally there is desire to dirty Trump up a bit more if at all possible. That is self-evident. But there is SO MUCH MORE and it goes straight to the core of this thread:

Can we be honest? The Democrats have a problem. Two of their three front runners for the nomination have sizable warts. One guy is old as heck and is not even a Democrat!!! Their other front runner, Biden, is also very old with a history of health problems. He would never be able to run again in 2024 if he should win next year and remain alive that long. What to do?:

Impeach Trump over a matter relating to Biden’s misdeeds associated with his son, Ukraine, and China. Inevitably details of Biden’s own slimy behavior will come out, with any luck deep sixing his prospects for the nomination.

Can you say “Twofer”.

Put Trump on the hot seat and damage Biden at the same time; what could be better for Democrats!!

Democrats, in terms of political intelligence, are at least an order of magnitude smarter than Republicans. Democrats are playing chess. Republicans are running around like headless chickens searching wildly for the checkerboard.

Except when it comes to the 2nd amendment and abortion rights. Republicans have been playing the long game to corrupt congress and stack the SCOTUS in their favor. The latter is likely to set our laws back for decades, longer if they get another seat.

Although that may be true, it helps when 99% (by volume, not audience) of mass media are Democrats, or at least act like it.

The media’s hatred for Trump was one of the reasons I went to the polls in 2016. As in all but one of the presidential elections in which I’ve participated, I didn’t pull the lever for him, but rather against his opponent. Given the opportunity, the lever pull in 2020 will be for him.

You will never hear it on America’s mainstream media. I promise. But I follow our mainstream media, conservative media, and also FWIW Canadian media.

I have heard with my own ears a recording of Joe Biden, clearly and unambiguously in his own voice, bragging about having done in Ukraine precisely what Trump currently is under the microscope for allegedly having done. Hence:

I continue to believe the ongoing impeachment debacle contains a “rope a dope” aspect related to the subject of this thread. In simplistic terms:

  1. Trump is a skunk for having done what he supposedly did

  2. Later it emerges that Biden did the same thing. Perhaps Senator Warren will expose the recording I heard. Or the media might do it in effort to get rid of Biden.

  3. Such behavior already having been established, in the Trump matter, as impeachable, so now Biden is also disqualified for having done exactly the same thing Trump is accused of having done.

That’s how I see this.

A great many influential Democrats do not want Biden as their candidate. But Biden continues to have massive juice, especially with black voters. It will take something big to get Biden out. This could be it.

Speaking now about the race in general, and I’m referring to the race which is subject of this thread (there is now another thread to discuss Trump and everything swirling around him):

I think, as was the case back in 2016, it’s about baggage. Biden’s candidacy brings a HUGE amount of baggage, past deeds and misdeeds, fruit for the Republicans to harvest. This was also the case with Hillary last time. Democrat leaders remember the pain of that loss. They do not want to reprise that scenario.

Onto the scene comes Senator Warren, an almost fresh face with MINIMAL baggage. OK, you’re gonna throw the Fauxcahontas thing at me. Well, compared with Hillary or Biden that is nothing at all. It is small potatoes. By comparison Senator Warren carries almost no baggage whatsoever into the race. She is popular with the base, though not as much with black Democrats, and she is drawing large, enthusiastic crowds.

So Biden has to be swept aside. And with the recording I heard and the ongoing setup of Trump, I think it is happening.

Additional comment on the race:

Just in passing I have been really surprised how poorly Senator Harris is doing. Her candidacy does not appear to be catching on at all. I get a lot of stuff wrong, and I surely did with candidate Harris. At this point she does not have anywhere near the juice Senator Warren has. Go figure.

Course it still is over four months until the Iowa caucuses. Anything could happen going forward. But right now Senator Warren appears to me to be out front and pulling ahead.

Woo Hoo!! Now here is a development in the race:

As I forecast up thread might happen, Tulsi has qualified for the fourth Democrat debate, which will take place on Tuesday, October 15th, in Ohio. As followers here are already aware, Tulsi was not on the stage for the September debate earlier this month.

Oh, boy, the Tulsi haters are not gonna like this!! :innocent:

And it gets even worse for far left Democrats. Tulsi has just announced there is insufficient basis at this time for impeachment. She says Trump, instead, needs to be defeated at the ballot box. Tulsi, sweetheart, that is NEVER gonna fly with the base of the Democrat Party!!!

You have to admit Tulsi has a mind of her own. Having her back on that stage is gonna be GREAT!!

OK, so we know Tulsi and Tom Steyer will be participating in the October proceedings, and we know neither was on the stage in September. Does this mean October’s debate will take place over two nights?

I dunno. Stay tuned. Exciting stuff is definitely happening in this Democrat race. Tulsi is BAAAAAK . . . as if poor Kamala didn’t already have enough problems. :smiling_imp:

ETA

After a bit of exploring here on the net, it appears very likely the October debate will be a split affair. There are twelve qualifiers. I have to assume the split will be six/six over the two nights, Tuesday October 15th and Wednesday October 16th.

If the split is accomplished by lot, as in the past, this holds the possibility that the two leading contenders, Senator Warren and Vice President Biden, might not be appearing together on the same night.

I do not know how Mr. Perez, DNC chairman, will deal with this situation. But it’s an interesting circumstance and surely merits close monitoring. If he instead creates an “adults table”, “kids table” split, that would draw sharp criticism I’m rather certain. The debate itself will be under CNN/NY Times sponsorship. Those two organizations might also have input as to how the split will be accomplished.

Political strategy thoughts on the latest impeachment move, and how this benefits Warren over Biden.
