Who will join POTUS nominee Biden on the Democrat ticket as VP?

Very good article; an interesting read. Here is an excerpt:

But Clinton’s recent return to the spotlight to bash Sanders and relitigate both her 2016 primary victory and general election loss has reignited tensions between establishment Democrats and grassroots liberals.

With Sanders rising in the polls, there are new fears among his supporters that the national party will stack the deck against him, particularly if there is a contested convention.

It is difficult for me to see how Mrs. Clinton can do anything other than rile the waters at this VERY late stage of events ongoing. Bernie was an obedient pussycat when she cheated him back in 2016. Is he prepared to roll over one more time? Hillary is out there right now openly attacking his candidacy. Why is she doing that?

I think all the noise out there surrounding the trial is riling Biden up. He is at some threat, how much I dunno.

Thing is, and this is the important part:

Democrats have a strong bench of far less controversial candidates than Biden:

Bernie is controversial only because of his wife. Otherwise he is pretty clean.

Amy is whistle clean. Never a bad word about her.

Bloomberg is something of a playboy, but he is clean overall in my view.

Mayor Pete is an American patriot, with no corruption charges whatsoever.

Ditto for Tulsi.

Warren? I dunno, the Republicans might be able to attack her a bit. But no way is she as questionable as Biden.

Mr. Yang? Totally clean insofar as I’m aware.

Mrs. Clinton is vulnerable but she’s not running.

Tom Steyer? I’m unaware of any corruption complaints.

So it’s a large group on the Democrat bench, mostly all clean. Meanwhile this stuff on Biden, despite the best efforts of the American mainstream media to protect him, is slowly, gradually, oozing out as an outcome of the Senate trial.

And finally we have President Obama who, by his silence and unwillingness (so far) to speak out for his Veep, casts even more doubt about the Biden candidacy. I think President Obama would prefer a different nominee, and I think President Obama well realizes there are some great alternatives for the party.

Yes, bad stuff moving out like hot tar on the road… I read today that Biden would choose Michelle as his VP.

Bernie is surging and Biden is cratering in my home state of California. The latest California poll shows that Biden may fall below the magic 15% threshold for delegate apportionment rules. If he falls below the threshold he may be almost completely shut out of California’s massive delegate total.

The CA primary is still about 5 weeks so many things can happen. I changed my registration to NPP (no party preference) so I can vote with the Democrats.Call me a Bernie Bro. :grinning:

Just to clarify, for this thread, you’re defining controversial as “caught or exposed” doing some illegal?

I just think, of all the candidates we here have had under discussion for more than a year now, Biden has the most baggage. But for most of that time he has been able to keep his problem in the shade.

The Senate trial is changing that and is harming him. I watched today. Still more Biden “stuff” came out. The more it is talked about, the worse for Biden.

Why should Democrats bother with Biden when they have other perfectly good, and whistle clean, candidates?

Trump is no choir boy. Is it the Democrats’ position that they need to fight fire with fire?

Iowa is Monday. New Hampshire is just eight days later.

Way things are shaping up today, Bernie will win both races.

That said:

I do not believe Bernie will win in South Carolina.

Nevada? I dunno.

… that we know of, and I agree. Of course, that could be because he has had more power, far longer, than any of the others.

At this hour it appears the trial will be over later today or tomorrow. So where does this leave our heroes?

Good for Bernie, Amy, and Elizabeth. They will have done their Constitutional duty with honor and distinction, and without complaint. They will all be free, commencing Saturday at the very latest, to get in critical last-minute Iowa campaigning. And they will also be free, thereafter, to campaign in New Hampshire. This restores some sanity to Democrat effort to determine their POTUS nominee.

Vice President Biden will also benefit. He is being harmed by this trial. The earlier it ceases, the better for him. But a Biden victory in Iowa is not today looking likely . . . . or in New Hampshire, either. If he somehow manages to lose in South Carolina you will be able to stick a fork in Biden. He will be done.

Meanwhile Mayor Bloomberg is out there, with all that money, becoming stronger daily. His ads are powerful and well done. He is clean. He is gaining on the entire field.

More than you probably wanted to know about the Iowa Democratic caucus and delegate process, as well as some of the changes for this year.

Former Maryland Representative John Delaney has formally dropped out of the race.

I am formally entering the race, but I’m not wearing a suit.

But please wear clothes.

Well I’m formally dropping out. You all are a bunch of jerks for never including me in any discussion of candidates, it crippled my candidacy from the start.

I blame shinobi for my poll showing so far as he has not mentioned me even once.

It’s a conspiracy,

what would a Democratic debate be without more rule changes?

This is one of those situations where It is difficult to know where to post this, so tightly woven together are ability of our candidates here to campaign and their service as jurors. So I’m gonna post on both threads.

For the sake of this thread can say it now appears Amy, Elizabeth, and Bernie might not after all be able to return to Iowa and campaign normally. It is also looking as if even some of their New Hampshire campaigning could be in jeopardy. Advantage: Biden

More on the other thread.

What the heck do you call Argyll’s Law?

I disagree. This is a big advantage for the little guy. Biden’s got no chance, and I believe that everyone except Biden knows it. Even if he wins the Hawkeye Cauceye and the NewHampwho primary, he has too much baggage, to which you’ve previously alluded, to run the table. To me, the delay of the impeachment vote only signals that the fix is in for the anti-big-gulp-guy. This delay tamps down any steam that the Senators can build up before Bloomberg’s ad money can gain votes in later elections, since he is not contesting the first few primaries.

Today is Saturday February first. This is a short month, though a day longer this year than most. Still this short month will be offering us FOUR contests which have been the subject here from the jump over a year ago. Specifically:

February third: Iowa caucuses

February eleventh: New Hampshire primary

February twenty-second: Nevada caucuses

February twenty-ninth: South Carolina primary

In addition, prior to each of those last three the Democrats will debate:

February seventh: in Manchester, NH (ABC)

February nineteenth: in Las Vegas, NV (NBC)

February twenty-fifth: in Charleston, SC (CBS)

You can see the debates in each state occur just prior to the vote in that state. It’s a WHALE of a lot of political activity just ahead during this short month, and you might be thinking “that’s enough”. But it’s not, because:

Very, very early next month, on just the third of March, there will be primary elections in no less than FOURTEEN states!!
