Who will join POTUS nominee Biden on the Democrat ticket as VP?

…a majority (more than 50%) of the results by 5PM today.

How do you release half the results of a single poll?

Can’t make this stuff up.

Sorry, pattyb53. I’m not a Republican, either. Though they are winning me back just a little . . . but not Romney.

Anyway, it now appears Bernie has won in Iowa, with Mayor Pete coming in a strong second and Senator Warren third.

Vice President Biden? There does not appear to be a lot of enthusiasm in Iowa for the Vice President.

Older participants here will remember Vice President Biden has sought our highest office prior, without success. American voters, for reasons I don’t entirely comprehend, have trouble warming up to Mr. Biden.

Candidates like Bernie and Mayor Pete engender an enthusiastic response from the same voters who reject Biden. I think Bernie, one week from today, will experience a blowout WIN in New Hampshire.

Update:

Nate Silver, of FiveThirtyEight fame, has stated in a lengthy piece that the Iowa screw-up has without question helped Biden’s campaign.

Link to Nate Silver’s piece

Silver is well respected, especially among Democrats. He did not predict it. But in 2016 he came far closer than many others to predicting President Trump’s victory.

And, sure, I can see how bottling up and delaying news of Bernie’s big win can harm his candidacy and mitigate his momentum. Wonder what they will come up with next week when Bernie wins big in NH.

Bernie close 2nd it looks like, not first yet. Conflicting info so far, and only 2/3 reporting.

So this “inconsistency” is from Sanders campaign workers secretly recording each caucus’s tally, and their numbers not matching what the DNC started to report? I’m no Sanders fan, but it’s pretty crappy when he needs to send lawyers just to get his votes tallied accurately.

I was joking before, but it this really all rooted in having a predetermined outcome, regardless of actual voting numbers? At best, it’s the stuff that allows conspiracy theories to thrive.

I said it before and I’ll say it again, F*CK the early primary states. It’s not right that one or two unrepresentative tiny states unduly influence the outcome. While I am concerned about whatever the heck is going on there, I’d be happy if the results stayed secret until at least Super Tuesday.

And, as I also said before, GO PETE!!!

I may not be representative of all voters, but I’ll give you my reasons:

  • I didn’t follow politics as closely in the past and I had not heard of him until he was picked for VP. I couldn’t figure out then and still don’t know WHY he was picked.
  • He is too old! Not because of the number, but because of how he speaks – I can see that he sometimes has difficulties forming sentences. Trump also has a problem with speaking, but it’s not because of age, it’s because he has a poor vocabulary, does not have in-depth knowledge about anything, and is a pathological liar and exaggerator.
  • I don’t believe he could stand against Trump in the debates. He’s too polite and wouldn’t be able to refute the shitstorm of lies and half-truths from the president.
  • He’s just not as good as the other candidates. Bernie is nothing but consistent. Warren has a plan for everything and gave us the CFPB, which, at least until their funding was cut by Trump’s appointee, anybody on this forum could truly appreciate. Pete is hella smart, eloquent, a veteran, and doesn’t attack his opponents unless attacked first, and he’s more moderate and realistic than Bernie and Warren. He would shred Trump in a one-on-one debate, and he’d look good doing it. I get a weird vibe from Klobuchar. Yang is a smart guy and I’m sure he’ll end up with some important appointment, but he based his campaign on a single promise of UBI which he plans to fund in part with a federal VAT, which IMO is ridiculous – the point of UBI is to improve redistribution of wealth and reduce poverty, while VAT is regressive and disproportionately affects the poor, the opposite of what’s needed. But I prefer all of them to Biden.

Yes, as I see it Mayor Pete is in first place with Bernie a smidge behind.

& as usual Biden 4th place & complaining all over the place. :rage: If Biden doesn’t get that extra help from Dems he looks like a complete loser.

Yes, it is quite potentially confusing for the rest of the country. As I understand things, Bernie has the most votes so far but Mayor Pete has the most delegates.

In any event, not all precincts have been tallied as yet and, yes, it is very, very close.

One thing seems clear: Biden did not garner all that much support in Iowa. But impact of his poor showing has been blunted by the delay in reporting the outcome. Perhaps that was the plan all along?

Did hear at least one call for resignation of DNC Chair, Mr. Perez. I think that would be a shame. If there was monkey business, I would not lay blame at the feet of Mr. Perez. He is doing a good job overall in the face of almost overwhelming tribulation.

Do believe, though, that the snafu in Iowa has harmed the Democrat party generally, causing them to appear weak, disorganized, and inept. This is not a good look as they kick off the process of choosing and promoting their POTUS nominee.

Biden today attacked both Bernie and Mayor Pete during his ongoing campaign in New Hampshire. Here is the report courtesy of the AP:

Joe Biden is attacking two of his major 2020 rivals by name as he campaigns in New Hampshire.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg were both directly criticized by Biden Wednesday after he lamented the impact Iowa has had on his campaign.

Biden said if Sanders is the nominee, “every Democrat in America up and down the ballot, in blue states, red states, purple states and easy districts and competitive ones.” will be stuck with Sanders’ democratic socialist label.

Biden says President Donald Trump is “desperate” to pin that label on Democrats.

On Buttigieg, Biden says said he has “great respect” for the 38-year-old. But he says it’s a risk to nominate “someone who’s never held an office higher than mayor of a town of 100,000 people in Indiana.”

With 75% of the Iowa vote now counted, Biden is struggling to hang onto fourth place. Perhaps he should worry more about Amy Klobuchar than the two front runners.

The AP did an pretty good job of cleaning it up. If Biden had been half as succint, he might actually be able to win a state. I heard s significant portion of his comments. It was mumbling, stumbling, bumbling, and halting. If he was sober, he really needs some R&R.

We should hear from someone in the House that they have definitive proof, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Trump used Limbaugh, the Israelis and the Russians to put the Iowans into disarray. If the Dems are as quick as last year, they can have him impeached by August.

Well, now Joe is just being a sore loser.

Latest results from Iowa appear to support your thinking. Joe is in the fight of his life with Senator Klobuchar . . . . . . for fourth place!!

Not meaning to rile you up by straying off topic. I don’t like that any more than you do. But I think Biden’s POTUS prospects have been harmed by the impeachment and trial. This because both operated to strip away at least some of the facade created to conceal Biden’s past misdeeds. More people, more Democrat voters in particular, became aware. And let’s face it, Biden’s candidacy was not strong enough in the first place to withstand that level of scrutiny.

So let’s see what transpires next Tuesday in New Hampshire. It should be interesting. And at least we reasonably can anticipate knowing the outcome Tuesday evening and not having to wait for several days. The Iowa results, by contrast, are STILL not fully revealed!

Mayor Pete is rising in New Hampshire. Appears as if he and Bernie will, next Tuesday, once again be leaders there! Both deserve to reclaim the momentum stolen from them in Iowa.

The problem with this re-canvas thing is loss of cred . . . especially for the “Bernie bros” who were cheated back in 2016.

Those people are very loyal to their candidate, Senator Sanders. If the stench of process scandal attaches to this election, as happened four years ago, Bernie’s voters will simply remain at home in November.

This is from the NY Times:

Results from the Iowa Democratic caucuses were delayed by “quality control checks” on Monday night. Days later, quality control issues have not been resolved.

The results released by the Iowa Democratic Party on Wednesday were riddled with inconsistencies and other flaws. According to a New York Times analysis, more than 100 precincts reported results that were internally inconsistent, that were missing data or that were not possible under the complex rules of the Iowa caucuses.

In some cases, vote tallies do not add up. In others, precincts are shown allotting the wrong number of delegates to certain candidates. And in at least a few cases, the Iowa Democratic Party’s reported results do not match those reported by the precincts.

I suspect that if it weren’t for DJT, Biden would be our next president … 'er if it weren’t for DJT, our next president might be one of the foursquad.

Iowa drama continues.

Did they learn nothing from the last presidential campaign regarding hacking risks? Their caucus app was vulnerable and they even turned down DHS’s offer to test the security.

“It’s just insecure enough to make sure Bernie loses, one way or another”, said an ex-Clinton staffer from the app developer. /s

Amazing. So help me God you cannot make this stuff up!!

The state party on Thursday rebuffed the pleas from frustrated Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez, who called for a “recanvass” of the error-riddled numbers — declaring “enough is enough.”

Reminder: tonight’s the night

The Democrat candidates will debate tonight in New Hampshire commencing at 8:00 pm ET on ABC. With everything that is happening, this will be “must see TV”.
