Who will join POTUS nominee Biden on the Democrat ticket as VP?

The Michigan Conservative Coalition and Michigan Freedom Fund — founded by Greg McNeilly, political adviser to the family of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos — planned the protest following Whitmer’s executive order last Thursday that expanded existing restrictions .

Vice President Biden has won the Wyoming Democrat caucuses by a wide margin over Bernie Sanders. Voting was via mail-in ballot:

Biden defeats Sanders in Wyoming primary

Continuing to hear mention of Gretchen’s name in the “veepstakes”. The protests might actually be HELPING her candidacy among Democrats! They certainly, at the least, are raising her profile big time.

News out now that Michael Bloomberg’s total spending, in his failed effort to secure the Democrat POTUS nomination, exceeded $1B. That’s one BILLION dollars. Just imagine if that fortune had, instead, been put to good use.

He shoulda hired those mythical Russian election influencers. They work so so cheap…

Obama’s round 2 gets some friendly reception from Biden.

The most important thing in the world for Democrats is a victory in November. Their clearest path to that victory lies with Michelle as Biden’s VP running mate. Nothing could be more clear.

Reminder for all:

This thread exists to discuss Democrat intra-party politics in general, and Biden’s VP pick in particular. Hence:

Biden vs. Bernie comment, for example, is on topic here. Impact of Biden’s VP pick on his chances is fine to discuss, but not in an effort to denigrate Mr. Biden. An example of this would be mentioning states where he might pick up votes with this or that pick.

The election thread in off-topic, on the other hand, exists for all nature of comment critical of Biden, or Trump . . . . or favorable to either of them for that matter . . . . as will be impactful in November. Please feel completely free to slam Biden (or Trump) over there . . . but please not here. Thanks

Pursuant to my post just above:

I was convinced a while back that Amy would turn out to be the “chosen one”. It just appeared so obvious at multiple levels of scrutiny.

Now I’m less certain

What I was seeing with Gretchen as a negative might actually be, among Democrats, a résumé enhancement!!

Let’s face it, this shutdown protest thing is a burgeoning issue in America now. Conservatives are protesting. Democrats are standing strong in opposition to them and in favor of continued clamps.

Have you heard from Amy on this? I have not. Meanwhile Gretchen is out there on the front lines standing strong in opposition to the conservatives, really a leading voice in that regard. It’s difficult for me to attempt thinking like a Democrat. But I’d have to think Gretchen’s star might be rising, and at JUST the right time to catch Vice President Biden’s attention, too!

I’m constantly amazed by your social involvement with the upper echelon of American politics. I wish I was on a first name basis with just one national election candidate!

What can I say. I love them . . . they love me!

Biden has already said he would choose Michelle in a heartbeat . . . . if only she were interested. But beyond that:

I’m wondering to what extent President Obama might influence Biden’s VP decision. Presumably Obama would point his old VP in the direction of a black candidate, either Kamala or Stacey one would think. I like both choices:

Kamala is the better of the two. But Kamala brings along only California, which is in Biden’s pocket anyway. And the fact someone with my leanings likes Kamala is likely a tell that, for Democrats, she is a poor choice.

Stacey is the veep choice I’m hoping Biden makes. I’m not certain it would be appropriate here to say why. But I’m definitely rooting for Stacey.

And why would anyone presume this?

You already are aware of the answer, but:

Obama has known preexisting leanings, especially toward Kamala.

Obama would want to cement the black vote in the face of a massive Trump assault. True or not, I dunno, but Trump has been claiming penetration as high as 20% of that vote. The Democrats simply cannot afford to lose that many black votes.

Obama could quite reasonably anticipate political payback from Biden. Without the leadership and endorsement of Congressman James Clyburn of South Carolina, Biden easily might not be the nominee. It was the black voters in South Carolina, with Clyburn leading the way, who turned the tide in Biden’s favor and quite literally resurrected his campaign against serious odds.

I am unaware of Obama’s relationship with Stacey, if any. So a counter argument might be, as I mentioned up thread, that Biden certainly does not need help in California and Obama is well aware of that. Georgia? I’m not certain, even with Stacey on the ticket, that Biden could turn Georgia. She lost in Georgia, you know, even though she is convinced she won. But if Obama thought Stacey could help Biden win Georgia then I think it is likely he would back her candidacy over, say, Amy or Gretchen. The political calculus on that one exceeds my knowledge.

Why would you think blacks automatically vote for the black candidate? I’m sure there’s at least a handful who are more concerned about selecting the best candidate regardless of race.

Instead of automatically for a Democratic candidate? Well not quite automatically but as groups go, pretty much. Trump as a Republican having more than single digit support was/is very usual. Of course much like CA or NY being solidly Democratic, there’s no need for Democratic politicians to pander to those regions, because what are they going to do - Actually vote republican? That would never happen. Swing states and marginal core groups are much more important strategically.

It’ll be a pretty small handful if Michelle is on the ticket!!

We should be looking at possible VPs for the Trump ticket. I nominate the mayor of Las Vegas.

Your post is off topic. This thread is not about President Trump or anything relating to him. The topic here is the race on the Democrat side, and in particular Vice President Biden’s VP choice upcoming.

More and more, with each passing day, Vice President Biden’s VP choice is looming larger and larger. I say that because I perceive an increased likelihood of Democrat victory in November.

But Biden is much advanced in age and so easily could pass away in a first term. This would leave his eventual VP choice as President of the United States. I cannot recall in my long lifetime any VP choice more important than this one. Certainly hope Mr. Biden chooses very, very carefully.
