The 2022 election politics

The Republicans are talking tough but let’s see how they perform with the attacks of the left-wing media and the woke corporations.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday morning flanked by his Republican colleagues, GOP Rep. James Comer — next in line to chair the House Oversight Committee — explained the evidence Republicans have gathered so far on which to base their probe(s), including interviews with “multiple whistleblowers,” reviewing the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop from hell, and “documents of previously unknown transactions.”

“This is an investigation of Joe Biden, the president of the United States, and why he lied to the American people about his knowledge and participation in his family’s international business schemes,” Comer made clear.

“National security interests require the committee conduct the investigation and we will pursue all avenues, avenues that have long been ignored,” Comer pledged on behalf of House Republicans on the Oversight Committee. “Republicans have uncovered evidence of federal crimes committed by and to the benefit of members of the president’s family,” he continued before enumerating the crimes evidence suggests were committed by the Biden family in the operation of their businesses. “These include conspiracy or defrauding the united states, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, violations of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, tax evasion, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.”

Yes Common misconception, eg ask some WV and KY MS folks. They might be poor but they’re white. It’s all about who you identify with and makes you feel better.

It looks like Lauren Boebert will squeak through and hold her congressional seat in Colorado for the GOP

The good news for the GOP is that Boebert is on track to hold the advantage on the initial tally, and because recounts rarely change the outcome of an election, Republicans are poised to keep the seat.

Edit. Looks like it’s final

The fight of the House freedom Caucus against the swamp begins. Their demand is reasonable

Rules changes to House procedure are the most consistent demands from Freedom Caucus members. Several lawmakers who spoke to Fox News said they want a return to regular order in the House, which would require every single piece of major legislation to be debated and voted in committee before heading to the House floor.

Freedom Caucus members say a return to regular order is especially important on budget and appropriations bills. Congress in recent years has seen such bills assembled on the floor by leadership and passed with limited debate. In some cases, House leaders have even voted to suspend normal operating procedures to expedite legislation.

Meanwhile in the frozen north the correctly named rank choice Follies continue

Murkowski has 112,519 votes, 43.3 percent of the total vote share, and Tshibaka has 110,861 votes, 42.7 percent of the votes.

Alaska goes by a rank-choice voting system which allows voters to list four candidates who advanced from a jungle primary in order of who they prefer to win.

However, if no candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes on Election Day, the counting proceeds to a second round where the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated and the promise is repeated until only two candidates remain.

The tabulation of second choice votes is scheduled to begin on November 23, leaving election results unknown until at least another week and a half

That’s the ridiculous part. They should be able to click a button to remove the lowest vote-getter, and have new results virtually instantly.

It’s all done manually, thanks to those luddites who don’t believe in “new fangled” machines. I’m surprised AK switched to rank choice (love it, but I’d expect OR, WA or CA to do it 1st.

Uh, that implies Jethro Bodine is in charge of vote counting – naught * naught + naught = one plus naught to the winner … let’s eat.

This was done by the turtle and the DC swamp and the Murkowski machine. My prediction is that it will work too. The Democrats will make Murk their second choice. So be it. From my admittedly partisan point of view, any Republican including Murk is better than a Democrat.

Ranked choice is a great election system. Far too often voters are faced with the choice of either voting for who they want or voting for the person who can beat the one they do not want to win. Ranked choice lets you do both - if your first choice doesnt win, you can still double down on a second choice who can win. It eliminates a split vote that lets the opposition back door their way to victory.

The problem is, it is suppose to replace both the primary and general election, combining them into a single vote. Using it for one, while keeping the other, is just stupid.

Agreed. Problem is both parties are entrenched in extremist primary system. Would be great to get more centrists with rank choice

It is not stupid. It is a deliberate strategy by the swamp. My problem with the system is that it’s too complex for ordinary voters to figure out. So the political operatives, always Democrats or the Republican left like Murk, figure out how to game it.

Well, yeah. It’s stupid as a sound election process. Meaning there are other motives for why it is the way it is.

I’m never one to give voters much credit for their intelligence. But I think most could grasp the notion of “Which candidate do you choose? Ok, now if you can’t chose that person, which candidate do you choose?”. Although I guess it would depend on how it’s laid out and explained on the actual ballot they’re filling out.

There’s always an opportunity to game the system. Like covertly supporting primary candidates you know won’t beat you in the general election - which is a scenario that’d be prevented by a proper ranked choice vote.
