Is this the new foolbook?
Well hopefully no one will care about covid in a couple years, and I am not so optimistic about FB.
AZN a lot of was said about possible blood clot risks from their vaccine with most of the EU stopping, and then after a few days, resuming vaccinations. In case you were wondering what this all was about the basic idea was this -
There were some deaths and serious health issues from blood clots in recently vaccinated people. But normal blood clots (deep vein thrombosis and or pulmonary embolisms) arenāt super rare and when the data was reviewed, the rate of these was not out of the ordinary given how many people got vaccinated recently. So nothing on that front.
However, a rare brain related type of blood clot was found to be several times more common than expected -
InĀstiĀtute PresĀiĀdent Klaus CiĀchutek deĀfended the recĀomĀmen-daĀtion, sayĀing his exĀperts idenĀtiĀfied seven cases in GerĀmany of cereĀbral vein thromĀboĀsis, a seĀvere brain conĀdiĀtion, and three of the peoĀple died. GerĀmanyās healthĀcare minĀistry said that, based on the numĀber of vacĀciĀna-tions given, it would have exĀpected as many as 1.4 cases of cereĀbral vein thromĀboĀsis, and the seven cases merĀited a pause.
No word on the similar numbers for the other vaccines, whether all the covid around means that these blood clots are more common than the pre-covid baseline theyāre using, etc, but either way itās super rare but if you get meningitis type symptoms after your vaccine, definitely get medical attention.
Note the EU medical boardās endorsement doesnāt disclaim these rare risks, just saying āitās worth the risk since covid is badā basically.
The EMAās safety committee found the vaccine to be āsafe and effective in preventing Covid-19, and its benefits outweigh its risk,ā said committee chair Sabine Straus. Dr. Straus said that since blood clots are associated with Covid-19, by inoculating people against the disease, the vaccine ālikely reduces the risk of thrombotic incidents overall.ā
Yesterday, Saturday, folks seemed to be out & about in my country town. Traffic abounded!!
Now maybe the reason was that people got that stimulus check & on the run to spend it. Possibly more folks have had the Covid-19 vaccination, & feel safer. I was out in the early evening buying some Chipotle Mexican take out.
What ever, Malls crowded & town is looking closer to āthe old normalā.

basically vax can cause clots but so can Covid (worse)
Just got me shot today (J&J). Now just got to wait about 2 weeks and I should be good to go.
Getting the vaccine you want was more of a hassle than I thought it would be once I became eligible. Many places wonāt tell you which shot youāll get ahead of time so you donāt get to pick. I ended up claiming that I was allergic to polyethylene glycol to be sure to be given the J&J one.
smart move. From a public health logistics perspective you donāt want to give a choice. Iām surprised they didnāt ask you how you know about being allergic to polyethylene glycol
Had I known in Dec that JNJ would be avail by now I would have waited too.
Tons of common OTC medication like acetominophen, ibuprofen or zyrtec contains PEG as excipient. Few OTC anti-constipation medication like Miralax even use PEG as active laxative.
They wonāt bother asking where you found out about it because there are so many products containing it and itās a waste of their time to investigate.
Got my first shot, pfizer, yesterday at a state run mass vaccination site about 35 minutes from my house at a college basketball arena.
I was feeling a little guilty because of how soon my opportunity came up after registering and hearing about people lying about their health conditions jumping old people in line - both my mom step dad havenāt received theirs. Iām 37, they are 64. I made sure to tell the truth when registering so that wouldnāt happen. But when I got there, there were no senior citizens that I saw. Very few people with any gray hair, and I was one of the baldest guys there. So I was clearly above the average age of the recipients. It turns out my mom and step dad donāt have theirs because they didnāt register yet. They thought they couldnāt because they arenāt 65 and in their state, they hadnāt received any guidance. So I no longer feel like I took someone elseās place in line that needs it more.
Edit: I called my mom last night, found the site for her local health department, sent it to her and now she is registered.

they are 64
Naaaa, youāre good. No worries at all for you.
Iām a whale of a lot older than that and nobody in my state gives a good RF about my being vaccinated. Iām much too far off the beaten path. I figure, way things are unfolding, itāll be at least a couple more months before I have any realistic chance to obtain the vaccine. And Iām not at all certain that even then Iāll have a decent shot. Maybe before yearās end. I hope so.
Ya gotta remember the current government is focused on cities and other population centers. Maybe after all those folks are vaccinated they will remember not everyone lives in a city. But we donāt vote for them, so maybe not.

Iām not trying to give you a hard time because I agree with you mostly. But just out of curiosity, how far are you willing to travel to get the vaccine and how far are you from the closest city?

Good for you. Everyone needs a little extra help & encouragement now & then.
Yesterday I helped a friend go online & set up his Medicare application. He is 64 with birthday 7/28 to turn 65. The form looked pretty complicated for him. (so I went online & filled it out)
Easier to explain it as follows:
There was a theoretical opportunity for me which involved a 60+ mile round trip and indoor administration of the vaccine. I had no interest.
I would travel further for an outdoor, drive through, opportunity than I would if they insist I go indoors. In fact, I will not go indoors to obtain the vaccine if it means I have to stand there, waiting, among a bunch of unvaccinated people.
Hell, all they have to do is put up a tent in a parking lot some place and start giving shots. So far, that has not happened where I live.
Biden said we will all be vaccinated by May. I have my doubts about it happening but we will see.
Really only age 65+ at this moment are qualifying for Covid 19 shots.
Thousands still waiting!

Yes, the jj dpa production boost has helped.
More specifically, itās that all adults (not everyone) should be eligible by May 1.
Thatās not the same thing as everyone vaccinated. And itās almost a month after the first shot to be vaccinated soā¦
TX is opening up next Monday to all adults. But the vaccination rate for the other groups is still pretty terrible. So itās not really a āgood signā to remove the restriction early. Itās a sign that not enough of the targeted groups are actually getting vaccinated quickly enough.
Weāre making good progress in New Orleans. Something like 27% of the population vaccinated already. Having a good supply of the single dose vaccine helps, plus a nontrivial number of people here have health so poor that they fit the state guideline for higher-risk.

Itās a sign that not enough of the targeted groups are actually getting vaccinated quickly enough.
Agreed. But even though I have been left out I still favor vaccination for others regardless their age or comorbidities. I think it is important everyone who wants the vaccine has opportunity to receive a shot.
For me patience will eventually win the prize . . . . I hope.

To be fair then, itās not that they donāt care about you being vaccinated. Itās that they donāt care about you being completely comfortable with the process.

Did you miss my post? People in their 20s are qualifying for the reason that @Bend3r just mentioned:

I think this is only partly a failure of the govāt - specifically communication. The majority of the failure is the choice of a lot of people not to be vaccinated. And itās not just backwoods MAGA hat wearers. My boss and I are probably the most conservative people at work. Weāve both received the first shot. My staff accountant is not conservative. She is a self-admitted COVID scaredy-cat (her words). Sheās older than me. I told her when I got an appointment because I thought sheād be happy. I asked if she had scheduled yet and planned to tell her to register on the site I used if she hadnāt yet. She told me she got a call last week and decided against it. Turns out sheās more afraid of the vaccine than COVID. And I reiterate - she is NOT conservative and is NOT refusing the vaccine on āfreedomā grounds.

To be fair then, itās not that they donāt care about you being vaccinated. Itās that they donāt care about you being completely comfortable with the process.
Whatever. Iām not up for 120+ miles of driving to receive two shots. Iām waiting until they bring the vaccine closer to where I am. Just hope it happens before Christmas.

If you donāt live near a place where a mass in-vehicle vaccination site makes sense, you should be checking your local pharmacy to see when they will be getting it. Yeah, itās indoors, but it isnāt a basketball auditorium filled with unvaccinated people, so itās probably the best youāll be able to get without a long trip.
