Sure, make long term decisions in the midst of a “disaster”. What could possibly be wrong with that?
For previous elections in CA, you could register as a permanent mail-in voter. They’d send you everything in advance, and IIRC they had to receive your ballot by the voting day so you had to mail it a few days before. This year everyone could vote by mail for like a whole month, but at the latest you could drop off your envelope at a collection box at any polling place before the polls closed. I think this is a great model that should be used everywhere.
In this case, nothing. It’s the smart thing to do with or without a disaster. It’s probably more cost-effective, saves voters time, and you don’t need to take time off work to cast your vote.
Vice President Biden has defeated Senator Sanders in the Florida Democrat primary election.
ETA
The AP has now projected VP Biden as winner over Sanders in Illinois as well.
I disagree. It’s a huge opening for fraud, making it really easy for people to (literally) buy votes. You can always pay someone to vote a certain way, but they still need to show up at the polls to cast the vote (and you can never be sure if they fulfill their end). But with this method, they simply hand you their blank ballot.
Do any states prohibit voting by mail? Because the scenario you described could happen now, anywhere.
Like Goose mentioned, my only experience is needing a valid reason to obtain an absentee ballot.
OK, Biden took all three.
Definitely looking to me now like Hillary will be his running mate.
For certain, if he offers it to her she will not decline. And among all the possible candidates, Biden knows Hillary personally better than he knows the other prospects . . . has a longer and closer history with her in politics. In addition, Hillary offers Biden his best shot at recreating that Obama administration mystique he seems to respect and treasure so highly.
Biden’s thinking: If we can return to the values and accomplishments of the Obama administration, America will be saved and restored.
Now if he could only get it out of his mouth in a complete sentence. ![]()
Now, after badgering and attacking him without mercy, the press is excoriating poor Bernie for using bad language in effort to get them off his back.
The American mainstream media does have its favorites. Right now it’s Biden, thank goodness.
Tulsi is out, endorses Biden.
I concede Vice President Biden is the odds on favorite to become the Democrat Party’s 2020 POTUS nominee. However, it now appears that decision might not be made by voters in all the various states. Instead, it’s possible everything will need to be done at the convention . . . provided circumstances allow the Democrat convention to go forward.
I have mentioned DNC Chairman Perez many, many times since commencement of this thread back in better times. Chairman Perez must be going nuts at this point and he tries to bring a degree of normalcy to his various party processes in the face of this coronavirus.
Anyway, primary election voting is being postponed, or has already been postponed, in any number of states. Without those elections how are Democrats supposed to select their remaining delegates? And, unless this virus subsides prior, will it be safe for the delegates already selected to attend a convention in person? What a mess!!
From the AP: Election limbo as coronavirus outbreak upends US primaries
I can see it now State X, last in the nation. ![]()
If not, there are going to be a lot of disappointed bartenders and wait staff in the convention city.
Bigger question - what if a candidate becomes infected? They’re all 70-somethings, it could easily present as potentially life threatening (if not actually being life threatening). Do delegates stick with their pledge, even if voting for someone who is in the hospital at the time, and maybe even on a ventilator?
Obviously I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. But it would be an interesting scenario to watch play out.
You’ve just described the book about how Hillary became the first female president. ![]()
Back on the topic of our Democrat POTUS and VPOTUS nominees:
It is fair, I think, to assert Vice President Biden is now the presumptive POTUS nominee. A question:
Where is he? What has become of Mr. Biden? I’ve not heard so much as a peep for at least the last week.
Is he resting? How much rest does he require? Could he not provide us, for example, his short list of VP candidates? Has he no words at all of support and encouragement for Americans in our current, ongoing, crisis?
And does Mr. Biden remain healthy? I hope he is fine. But reassurance would be a good thing. This man, after all, could easily turn out to be our next POTUS!! He is a very important guy.
The less you hear of him, the less time there is for a major screw up. Besides, when the media is beating up Trump for you, why waste your money.
I hope it’s after 5:00 p.m.
Appreciate the post. I ask, please, not to use this thread to beat up on Biden or on Democrats. I tried to avoid that in my own post . . . . maybe I needed to try harder.
Thing is, we have a companion thread to this which is about politics and the November election. All are encouraged to go over there and let rip your disgust with Trump or your unhappiness with Biden . . . . or anything else of a political nature.
This thread is for discussion of the Democrat nominees, not for their dismemberment or disparagement. Democrat forum members should be able to read this thread without becoming angry.
Seriously? You’re the one who asked “Where is he?”, and then object to being given an answer that’s likely pretty accurate? Besides, you’ve done plenty of “dismembering” him in this thread over the exact same reasons.
