Who will join POTUS nominee Biden on the Democrat ticket as VP?

Wow, very good speech.

The dog that didn’t bark

There is a whole lot going on in America today. With so much, one wonders about Bernie not already having dropped out of the race. Bernie’s candidacy, instead, continues to . . well . . burn. Does Bernie perceive Biden weakness some of us might be overlooking?

Stay tuned.

Looks like the back room deals at the DNC convention will likely be virtual back room deals.

The Democrat’s National Convention has been rescheduled. The new start date for the get together is August seventeenth, more than a month later than originally scheduled and only one week prior to start of the Republican convention.

The Wisconsin primary takes place today.

With Bernie now having shut down his campaign, I have changed the thread title appropriately.

There is even talk Biden could choose Cuomo! Doubt it, but suppose anything is possible.

Joe Biden faces the most important decision of his five-decade political career: choosing a vice president.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee expects to name a committee to vet potential running mates next week, according to three Democrats with knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal plans. Biden, a former vice president himself, has committed to picking a woman and told donors this week that his team has discussed naming a choice well ahead of the Democratic convention in August.

Selecting a running mate is always critical for a presidential candidate. But it’s an especially urgent calculation for the 77-year-old Biden, who, if he wins, would be the oldest American president in history. The decision carries added weight amid the coronavirus pandemic, which, beyond its death toll, threatens to devastate the world economy and define a prospective Biden administration.

From the AP: Read story in its entirety here

So it’ll work out like this?

Biden + Warren 2020
Warren 2021

+1 for the joke, but I’d be surprised if he picks someone who ran for potus. And even if he does, he’d probably be safer with someone closer to the center (ideologically and geographically), i.e. Klobuchar.

It would be an easy decision for me, were I Biden, and I would come out in the same place as yourself, scripta. Here is the calculus:

Those on the extreme left will never vote for Trump. Biden does not need radicals like Warren or Abrams to attract them. Both of those women would also activate persons only very mildly leaning Trump to get out and vote for him.

Biden does face the death issue, as highlighted by xerty’s post. America will scrutinize his VP choice with special vigor for that reason. If he goes hard left that will cause a loss of centrist votes from both political parties.

Biden wants a woman. For this reason, as you suggest, Amy is the obvious choice. She is qualified. She is compatible politically with Biden. She is NOT some sort of left wing kook radical. And she could help in the upper midwest, cementing Minnesota and providing support in Wisconsin, Iowa, and possibly even in Michigan.

Personally I also like Harris. But California is already SOLIDLY in the bag for Biden. And, as the article points out, Harris could antagonize far left Democrat voters.

So, bottom line, Amy is the clear choice . . . the only intelligent choice among available women.

Vice President Biden won Saturday’s Alaska Democrat primary election.

Interesting to watch the left and #MeToo advocates’ mental gymnastics to not apply their standards to “their side”. Here’s a good story on the background of Tara Reade, including her recent interviews about the assault by Biden back in 1993.

Late Thursday afternoon, Reade filed a report of the incident with the sexual assault unit of the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Police Department. Business Insider has obtained a public incident report recording the allegation.

Willing to go under oath

In an interview, Reade told Business Insider that she filed the report in part because she had become a target of harassment after her initial allegations became public last year, and she wanted “to simply have documentation in case anything happened.”

“I filed it because I had been harassed so badly last April,” Reade, 56, said on Thursday. “I also wanted to make it clear that I would be willing to go under oath or cooperate with any law enforcement regarding it, because it did happen. Even if it was 26 years ago.” Reade said she spent 45 minutes telling her story to a DC sex-crimes detective by phone from her home in California.

If you want read the same coverage from the NYT, you’ll have to read half an article downplaying the issue, the denials and spin from Biden’s campaign, the NYT’s interviews with his prior staff with poor memories, and finally some anti-Trump comparisons, before they get to her side of the story.

No other allegation about sexual assault surfaced in the course of reporting, nor did any former Biden staff members corroborate any details of Ms. Reade’s allegation. The Times found no pattern of sexual misconduct by Mr. Biden.

Well, I’m glad that’s settled. If you want to really dig into the connections between the legal defense nonprofit for many of the MeToo cases, which took a very conservative legal stance and declined to fund Reade, and Biden’s campaign advisors, I’ll repost this link.

ETA: turns out the NYT piece did mention some “inappropriate touching” by Biden, at least to the extent it made many women uncomfortable, but apparently that was too harsh for a democratic candidate and it has been since edited out of the conclusion paragraph I quoted above.

Well and good.

But wonder if President Obama will ever get 'round to endorsing him!!

PI has Kamala in first place, Amy running second. Those people are wrong. It’s gonna be Amy. Period

PI has Amy running second. They are wrong!

And I wonder if he could pick President Obama as his running mate!!

I don’t think Amy is the best choice. He needs to turn out the minority vote, specifically the African American vote. Kamala will help big time with that. Amy won’t help at all and could even hurt.

After the assault she perpetrated against him in the debates, I don’t think Kamala’s chances are very good. But then again, politicks be politicking.

President Obama has come out foursquare behind the candidacy of his VP, Joseph Biden. In my opinion, he means it big time. While some believe President Obama’s announcement was a bit tardy, there’s no question in my mind he will back up Biden to the max, and campaign for him vigorously. These two guys remain good friends. I’m sure of it.

Meanwhile some of the Bernie bros are looking a bit riled up. Not certain where that will lead.

Maybe he will go with Michelle O. as VP.
